September 2008 | Downtown Partnership of Baltimore Announces Downtown Baltimore Award Winners Companies & individuals were honored at recent Annual Meeting for Outstanding Contribution to the Downtown Baltimore Community Downtown Partnership of Baltimore has presented the 2008 Downtown Baltimore Awards to thirteen individuals and organizations that have invested in Downtown and improved its quality of life. Each winner has engaged in ongoing projects that were years in the making but that were completed or celebrated a milestone during the past calendar year. The awards were presented at the Downtown Partnership 2008 Annual Meeting, held in September. “Downtown Baltimore is fortunate to have a deep bench when it comes to business investment and philanthropy, and each year we have a hard time winnowing the list of candidates,” said Downtown Partnership of Baltimore president Kirby Fowler. “This year’s winners represent multimillion dollar development projects, and small volunteer efforts. They are bringing in new residents, jobs, and investments that will benefit Downtown Baltimore for decades to come,” Fowler said. The 2008 Downtown Baltimore Award Winners Accent Development Company (ADC) Varied architecture is part of what makes Downtown unique in the region, and Accent Development is helping it stay that way through investments in historic buildings. Accent saved Baltimore City’s only remaining double cast iron façade at 307 West Baltimore Street, bringing it back to productive use and its original beauty. Downtown Partnership is a nonprofit corporation working with the public and private sectors to make Downtown Baltimore a great place for businesses, employees, residents, and visitors. The Partnership’s policies and programs have led to a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful Downtown, to an increase in housing and retail opportunities, to the retention of key employers, to the development of solutions to transportation challenges, and to increased public and private investments in the area.
